Microneedling is a treatment to produce increased amounts of collagen, which is said to replenish hair growth by regenerating hair follicles and nourishing hair proteins.
A Microneedling Pen which contains small needles is used for the hair loss treatment. The needles pierce the skin and cause tiny wounds, without bleeding, which helps produce more collagen for healthy hair and new skin cells as they heal, helping strengthen hair follicles.
The way microneedling works when used as a combination therapy is by creating micro channels in the scalp, which improves absorption of topical treatments including Minoxidil.
When the medication is applied following microneedling, it makes its way down the micro channels, caused by the small punctures in the skin. The micro channels prevent the medication being blocked by the top layer of the skin and support it on its journey to the level where the hair follicles exists. This intensifies the results of the medication, creating greater results, often quicker!

When performing microneedling, we apply a topical anaesthetic to ensure you are as comfortable as possible, this should make the procedure relatively pain-free.
The procedure itself might take around 30-60 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. The appointment may take an over an hour in order to prepare the area and give the numbing cream time to work.
Typically, microneedling is performed once every four to 6 weeks, but your treatment regime will be tailored depending on the condition of your hair and your desired outcome.
Your specialist may ask that you avoid washing the area, exercising and direct sunlight for the days following the procedure. Ensure you are sleeping on a clean pillow case to reduce the risk of infection. If you require advice following treatment, please contact our friendly team.
The possible side effects of microneedling are greatly reduced if the procedure is performed by an experience and trusted professional. Possible risks include bruising, oozing from wounds, redness, swelling and pain. Most side effects will diminish by day 5 post treatment.
