What Causes Spider / Thread Veins?

Spider veins can indicate an underlying problem with your veins and are commonly associated and present with varicose veins.

These vеіnѕ are mostly asymptomatic, causing little in the way of symptoms like throbbing and aching, but are often troublesome for patients due to their unsightly and undеѕіrаblе cosmetic appearance. 3 Step Treatment Plan 

Each patient being seen and assessed at HHC Vein Clinics have a 3 step treatment strategy:

1. Initial Consultation including Duplex US scan
2. Main treatment episode to treat the underlying cause
3. Follow up appointment, usually to complete the treatment and attain the desired cosmetic result

Our initial vein consultations include:

• Clinical history discussion 
• Detailed clinical examination of your legs
• Discussion about family history of venous problems
• Carrying out an ultrasound scan which will reveal the nature and extent of the varicose veins including assessment of deep veins
• Personal DVT risk profiling
• Producing an individualised treatment plan 

Once the assessment has been completed, your Consultant will explain what treatment options are best for you, what results you can expect to see and how long the process is likely to take.

Most patients need to have two treatment sessions carried out over 6-8 weeks period . Occasionally a patient will require a further follow-up appointment . This is most likely where there are extensive and/or tortuous varicose and thread Veins.

How long does the EVLA procedure take? 

Effective treatment is carried out within 1-2 hours under local anaesthetic. The actual time required for the Endovenous Laser Therapy will vary according to the extent and complexity of the problematic veins. 

Once the procedure is completed you are free to leave providing that you have someone to accompany you and drive you home.

EVLA avoids the need for an overnight hospital stay and a long recovery period. Most people, depending on the type of work they do, are fine to return to work the following day.

During microsclerotherapy a mild chemical solution being injected into the affected vein or capillary. The solution irritates the walls of the vessel, causing it to collapse. The body then reabsorbs the vein and blood is re-routed to a healthy vein, restoring proper venous circulation in the area.

A single microsclerotherapy treatment session involves a number of localised injections in order to collapse the spider veins in one area.

The total number of sessions required varies from patient to patient, depending on the number of veins needing treatment, ability to heal, and the cosmetic result desired. Sometimes Microsclerotherapy can be used in isolation and for other patients its used as part of a treatment plan that involves one or more of our other market-leading treatments for veins, such as EVLA or Foam Sclerotherapy.
